Operating under the cover of a professional medical role, Salamat is accused of carrying out one of the largest individual patterns of sexual violence documented in recent Iranian history, with more than 200 women and girls identified as victims in Hamadan. His arrest in early 2024 and subsequent public execution later that year made his case a significant moment in Iranian criminal proceedings.
